Governance, Nomination and Planning Committee The Governance, Nomination and Planning Committee serves to demonstrate to the Board of Directors, to the communities served, and to the Department of Health that Horizon meets its requirements as it pertains to: Governance structure and processes Evaluation of Board effectiveness Education and evaluations of Board members Recruitment and nominations of officers and members of Board committees Other such duties as may be directed by the Board Susan Harley Board Chair Susan Harley joins Horizon with over 35 years of senior leadership experience in marketing, operations, corporate governance, and business strategy/business development. She has led teams during times of strategic transition, both in Atlantic Canada and across Canada. She has a Business Administration degree and a Master’s in Business Administration degree from the University of New Brunswick. Susan has been a lifelong volunteer and community champion in and for New Brunswick. She currently sits on several Boards — Chair of the Saint John Airport board, and member of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada, and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada boards. Susan brings her business and board experience, along with a high level of energy and commitment, to Horizon’s Board of Directors. Susan and her husband, Ted live in Rothesay, and enjoy the many outdoor activities the area has to offer – from golfing, to spending time of the river paddle boarding, kayaking and boating, to walking and exploring our beautiful province. They have two grown boys, David and Adam. Read More Robert M. (Bob) Creamer, K.C. Robert (Bob) Creamer is a Partner at Lawson Creamer in Saint John, where he has practised law for more than 35 years, focusing on insolvency, restructuring, and commercial litigation. He represents financial institutions, businesses, and trustees in complex financial and legal matters. Bob has served as President, Vice-President, and Treasurer of the Law Society of New Brunswick and as President of the Atlantic Provinces Trial Lawyers Association. He was appointed King’s Counsel in 2014 and has been consistently recognized in Best Lawyers in Canada for his work in corporate and commercial litigation and financial restructuring law. Active in the community, Bob has served as National Director and provincial President of the Kidney Foundation of Canada, as chair for major initiatives with the Imperial Theatre, the Canadian Red Cross, the Greater Saint John Community Foundation, along with other charitable and civic organizations. Read More Carol Reimer Chair of Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Committee Carol Reimer has experienced the health care system as a health care professional, a patient, and an advisor. As co-owner and health care consultant of Verus Consulting, she has worked on projects regarding health care access in developing countries, funding models for health resources, rural health, cost-comparisons between models, health care resourcing, and community health. As a health educator, Carol has taught at the University of New Brunswick, facilitated online courses in occupational health and wellness, and taught personal care workers employed in the home health care field. Carol earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Alberta and completed a Master of Science in community health from the University of Calgary’s Faculty of Medicine. She maintains her registered nurse (RN) designation. Carol has previously served on a number of national and local board, both corporate and non-profit, and has served on Horizon’s Board of Directors for six years. Carol and her husband Ken live in Fredericton where they have raised their three kids. She enjoys creative cooking, participating in her community and keeping up with the latest Marvel movies. Read More Donna Redmond Gates Chair of Governance, Nomination and Planning Committee Donna Redmond Gates has acted as a strategic advisor to some of the top businesses and most innovative non-profits in the region. Working with a team of talented marketing and communications professionals, she helped grow Bonfire Communications into one of New Brunswick’s most respected marketing agencies. The company was acquired in 2022 and she is currently working with Inclusion NB as Senior Advisor in Stakeholder Relations. In 2022, Donna was named as one of Atlantic Canada’s Top 25 Most Powerful Women in Business. Her skills have proven to be complementary to the non-profit world. Donna has held senior roles in this sector, notably as Vice President of Philanthropy and Communications at the Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick, Vice President of the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation, Executive Director of MindCare New Brunswick and Executive Director of Living Saint John, a community-based initiative to tackle generational poverty in the Port City. She is very active in her community and is currently serving as the Vice Chair of Port Saint John, as well as a Director on both the YMCA’s Endowment And Operational boards.
