Dr. Chen is a licensed laboratory physician at Horizon’s Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in Fredericton, and is the Chief and Medical Director of the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, and the Division Head of Clinical Biochemistry for the Fredericton Area and Upper River Valley Area.

Dr. Chen is an Associate Professor of the Department of Pathology, Dalhousie University, and serves on the editorial board of three peer-reviewed journals and is a frequent referrer for over 15 journals. Dr. Chen has published 60 research papers and over 50 abstracts. Dr. Chen has received several research awards from the American Association of Clinical Chemistry (AACC) and the Canadian Society of Clinical Chemists (CSCC). He has participated a few guideline development committees with the AACC, CSCC, and the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI). He serves on the board of directors of the Canadian Academy of Clinical Biochemistry (CACB) and is the Chair of its Credential Committee.

His research interests are medical biochemistry, clinical toxicology, biomarkers, laboratory test utilization and evidence-based medicine.
