Welcome to the Healing Books Project!

The Healing Books Project is a recovery model initiative made possible with the support of Horizon's Addictions and Mental Health Services. The project was created to bring resources in the form of self-help and therapeutic books to residents of New Brunswick struggling with mental illness, addiction, and/or other life challenges. The collection also has books for supporters, caregivers, and family members to help them deal with the many challenges they also face.

The idea was brought forth by a client who greatly benefitted from reading self-help and therapeutic books while in treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder. Books can provide valuable insight and help you work through painful problems such as grief, trauma, stress, anxiety, depression, addictions, and many other life challenges. Books can help you have a greater understanding of your situation and empower you with a message of hope and healing.

How books helped: A testimonial from the program founder

"Reading self-help and therapeutic books helped normalize the distressing and agonizing symptoms I was experiencing living with a mental illness. I was no longer alone in my torment. Books were tools I could use between sessions with my psychologist to gain perspective and clarity in my muddled mind. My books became a place of solace for me, a place where I saw my story in words written by total strangers. They comforted me, encouraged me and gave me strength, they gave me words to explain what I was feeling. Books offered me a message of healing and recovery, and most of all they offered me HOPE!"~ LB
