Horizon’s Saint John Regional Hospital is the largest tertiary care hospital in New Brunswick and is the primary health care referral centre for this area and to all New Brunswickers for major trauma and cardiac care.

The New Brunswick Trauma Program, New Brunswick Heart Centre, and the New Brunswick Stem Cell Transplant Centre are located within the hospital, as are Radiation Oncology and Nephrology services. This site offers autologous stem cell therapy and a stem cell processing laboratory.

The Saint John Regional Hospital also serves as the centre for Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick’s distributed medical education program. The hospital services a catchment population of 170,000 people.

The hospital was the first health care facility in Canada to be ENERGY STAR certified for superior energy performance.

A 4-bed enhancement to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) to support increasing volumes of cardiac surgery patients was completed in early 2019.

Planning is underway for a new two-storey wing to provide a best practice environment for the delivery of intensive care, oncology services, and endoscopy.

The hospital’s J.T. Clark Family Foundation Ambulatory Clinic will soon be renovated and expanded to enhance patient care and allow procedures previously performed in the operating room (OR) to take place in the clinic, as day surgeries.

Renovations will allow for more space, better patient flow, and a modernized approach to patient care.
