Cardiac Surgery

Cardiac surgery is surgery on the heart and/or vessels and is done to treat complications of some form of heart disease. Types of cardiac surgeries performed at the New Brunswick Heart Centre include:

  • Coronary artery bypass grafting
  • Valve repair/replacement
  • Minimally invasive mitral valve repair/replacement
  • Thoracic aneurysm repair (open and stent grafts)
  • Removal of cardiac tumors
  • Repair of some congenital and acquired heart structure abnormalities
  • Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVI)
  • Endoscopic vein harvesting

The New Brunswick Heart Centre is the single provider of adult tertiary cardiovascular surgery services for the province of New Brunswick.

The centre’s team of dedicated caregivers ensure that you and your family have access to all necessary information in order to better prepare for your admission to hospital.

Discharge planning begins before admission and a variety of support services, including a nationally recognized telehealth post surgery home monitoring program, are in place to support the patient and family following discharge.
