Redevelopment Projects As part of our plan to deliver transformative health care services and excellence in hospital care across Horizon, we’re modernizing our facilities with state-of-the-art technology, more efficient spaces, and improved equipment to provide patients, clients, staff, and physicians with environments designed for safe, quality care. This ongoing work includes a combination of large-scale, multi-year projects with phased completions extending to 2032, as well as smaller upgrades scheduled for completion within one to two years. Below you’ll find details on each project and its estimated completion date. We appreciate the public’s patience as these projects progress. While we’re working to minimize disruptions, patients and visitors may notice minor changes. We’ll maintain clear signage throughout our facilities and provide regular updates to keep everyone informed. Moncton Fredericton and Upper River Valley Saint John The Moncton Hospital (TMH) Lobby Project – Expected completion: October 2025 We’re in the process of transforming the main lobby in partnership with the Friends of The Moncton Hospital Foundation. Once completed, this modernized space will create a bright, welcoming environment for patients, visitors and staff. Other improvements will include new food and coffee vendors, as well as a comprehensive wayfinding system to help patients and visitors navigate the hospital more easily. During construction, signage will be in place directing patients and visitors to different areas of the hospital. The first floor admitting area will continue to be accessible from the main lobby. To reach all other areas of the hospital, patients will need to proceed to the second level and access the 500 block elevators to reach their destination floor. Patients or visitors with mobility issues, and anyone accessing services in the ambulatory care clinics are encouraged to utilize the underground parking facility on Walsh Street. Coronary Care Unit – Expected completion: fall 2027 This unit is currently under construction. Further updates on progress will be made closer to the completion date. Pharmacy Upgrade – Expected completion: fall 2027 We are currently seeking tenders for this project. Further updates on progress will be made closer to the completion date. Foulem Construction has been awarded the construction contract, and activity started on-site in early July. Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital (DECRH) Surgical Suite – Expected completion: late 2025 or early 2026 The development of a new surgical unit will increase capacity and reduce wait times. The modernized facility will include versatile, state-of-the-art operating rooms adaptable for various procedures, a dedicated pre-operative space for patient comfort, a new recovery area and a quiet family lounge with comfortable seating. We’ll make a formal announcement about the new space in early 2026 once construction is complete. Combined Care/Obstetrics, Labour and Birth, and Neonatal Intensive Care – Expected completion: winter 2026 through fall 2026 This integrated space will bring together a full spectrum of services under one roof: Labour and Birth, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and combined antepartum and postpartum care. The facility will feature more private rooms, upgraded technology, and a calm, soothing environment for patients and families. A formal announcement will follow in 2026 once construction is complete. Upper River Valley Hospital (URVH) New MRI Space – Expected completion: December 2025 or January 2026 A new MRI machine was purchased by the hospital foundation in 2023. A new space for the machine is being developed. A further announcement about the space and service will take place once completed. Saint John Regional Hospital (SJRH) Surgical Program Upgrade and Hybrid Operating Room – Expected completion: 2032 This major upgrade is currently in the design phase. Further updates on progress will be made closer to the completion date. Did you know that Horizon has won multiple awards for our energy management policies and systems?
