Occupational Therapy

Who We Are

Working with babies to seniors and everyone in between, Horizon’s dedicated Occupational Therapy (OT) team are problem solvers. Through their innovative and creative work, Horizon’s OT team demonstrates patient-centred care. Occupational therapists (OTs) work with patients whose physical and/or mental health interfere with their ability to do everyday things.

OTs learn what is most important to their patients, identify the barriers, and enable them to find ways to meet their goals, and improve their quality of life. Occupational therapy assistants are also team members who support the provision of occupational therapy services.

What We Do

Horizon’s occupational therapists have expertise in working with people who have difficulty performing their daily tasks. These tasks may involve:

  • personal care (such as washing and dressing, getting in/out of the shower)
  • household chores (such as laundry, cooking, grocery shopping)
  • work or school transition (such as being able to concentrate, grasping tools at work after an injury to your hand or arm)
  • play or leisure (such as returning to daily walks after a stroke, being able to sit and play a game with friends)

Occupational therapists make recommendations on how to modify the patient’s environment to improve safety and function.

Occupational therapists may recommend equipment/adaptive aids, provide exercises to regain movement and strength, and teach new techniques or strategies to help someone be more independent in their daily life.
