Horizon’s The Moncton Hospital is located in the city of Moncton. Situated in the centre of this vibrant and friendly city, The Moncton Hospital is a leader in health care delivery and health promotion.

The hospital is a level 2 trauma centre that includes tertiary care for neurosurgery, neonatal intensive care and maternal fetal medicine services. It serves as a referral centre for these tertiary services and other specialty services across New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and northern Nova Scotia.

The Moncton Hospital is among Canada’s leading centres for neurosurgery, neurology and active advanced-stage oncology (cancer) services and is home to the NB Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Unit, the NB Organ and Tissue Program and the Perinatal NB Program.

The Moncton Medical Education Program, affiliated with Dalhousie University and Memorial University of Newfoundland, and the following fully accredited teaching programs are administered through The Moncton Hospital: Dietetic Internship Program, the School of Radiologic Technology and Research, and the Pharmacy Residency Program.

The area’s health services cover a catchment population of approximately 192,000 people.

A $36-million project for a brand-new wing to modernize the environment for maternal and newborn services, neonatal intensive care and maternal fetal medicine is underway, and is expected to open in 2023.  This new space will feature modern and private patient rooms for all stages of birth, each with individual washroom facilities. This will improve outcomes for the mother, reduce the length of hospital stay, prevent the spread of infection and provide a safety- and quality-focused patient care environment.

In the spring of 2022, the construction of a new Cardiac Intensive Care Unit and Cardiac Step Down unit will begin. This new facility will provide a significantly larger space, which will greatly improve the quality of care for our cardiac patients and will greatly enhance patient comfort, safety, privacy and their overall hospital experience. In addition, this new space will improve patient flow and overall efficiencies.

In 2010, the hospital opened an expanded Emergency Department and the Irving Ambulatory Care Centre.

The hospital is home to a digital screens pilot project, in which screens are located throughout the hospital to improve communication with patients and the public.
