Horizon patient overcomes TTP

Joel was recently diagnosed with Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP), a rare, life-threatening blood disorder with an estimated 90 per cent mortality rate if untreated. It also significantly increases the risk of strokes, heart attacks and kidney failure, among other conditions. After being assessed by Horizon’s The Moncton Hospital’s emergency department, he was quickly transferred to the Saint John Regional Hospital for treatment.

Thanks to the care from Horizon staff and physicians, he has made a full recovery. Joel wanted to thank them for helping him and his family get through this whirlwind experience. He wanted to make sure everyone involved in his care heard how grateful he is – he can’t thank them enough.

All New Brunswickers deserve accessible and quality health care and a positive patient experience, and Joel’s story is one example of how Horizon health care teams are providing this every day.

Thank you to our physicians and staff who work every day to help ensure all New Brunswickers get the care they deserve. On Monday, we celebrated National Physician Appreciation Day. The care Joel received wouldn’t be possible without Horizon’s dedicated physicians. Thank you!
