Nurse Practitioner being added to Emergency Department team at Hotel-Dieu of St. Joseph to enhance patient care and access

(Perth-Andover) – Horizon Health Network (Horizon) is pleased to confirm that a Nurse Practitioner (NP) is being added to our Emergency Department (ED) team at Hotel-Dieu of St. Joseph (HDSJ) in Perth-Andover on Fridays to enhance patient care and access.

Through this pilot project, the NP will see patients experiencing less acute medical needs, specifically those who have been triaged at either Level 4 (semi-urgent, such as earache) or 5 (non-urgent, such as prescription refills) in accordance with the Canadian Triage and Acuity Scale (CTAS).

Patients experiencing the most urgent medical needs are always seen first while patients with lesser or non-urgent conditions will experience longer wait times. The addition of this NP to our team one day per week will help to reduce wait times and improve the experience for patients presenting to HDSJ with semi- or non-urgent health care needs. Part of ED teams in several other Horizon hospitals, NPs have the clinical expertise to provide quality patient care.

When possible, patients are encouraged to seek care for semi- or non-urgent health care needs from care providers such as primary care physicians and nurse practitioners, pharmacists, virtual care (such as eVisitNB.ca) or Tele-Care 811.
The Hotel-Dieu of St. Joseph ED is open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
