Horizon has a lot to offer if you are looking for an education placement in one of the following areas: Diagnostics – Nursing – Medicine – Research – Therapeutics – Support Services Requests for placement can be initiated by an agency on behalf of the student/learner at any time of the year. An Agency can be a learning institution, an employer, an association/licensing body, or a community organization. Requests are submitted no less than 3 months prior to the start date of the placement. Requests are approved based on Horizon’s capacity and availability. EXPLORE MY HORIZONS Horizon offers high school students interested in the health care industry one-day experiences showcasing various talent communities such as diagnostics, nursing, medicine, research, therapeutics, and support services. COOPERATIVE EDUCATION High school students enrolled in Cooperative Education and interested in the health care industry can apply for the opportunity to learn about the over 150 careers available in Horizon facilities. The high school student is required to go through their teacher, a guidance counsellor, or school administration to make a formal job shadowing request on their behalf. Request a placement for a high school student CAREER EXPLORATION For post-secondary students. Let us join you on your career exploration journey! JOB SHADOWING Horizon offers one-day experiences to those who have researched careers of interest and wish to gain further clarity about their career choices by observing and asking questions. This experience is self-driven, and not a school assignment or requirement. Job shadowing can last anywhere from an hour to a full work shift. Your application must demonstrate what you have done to explore and learn about the profession you are requesting to shadow. Our goal is to give you the opportunity to explore health care careers in a meaningful way. Do your homework and be prepared to have a robust dialogue! Take stock of what you already know about the profession you are asking to observe and what you are still curious about. Be aware of any preconceived ideas you have about the job/industry, both good and bad. Acknowledge what you’re still unsure about related to the profession/industry. Know what information and advice you are looking for. Requests are submitted no less than 3 weeks prior to the start date of the timeframe sought; identify a two-week period between the start date and the end date. The confirmed date, the start time and the length for the visit will be determined between the Manager and the Applicant. Requests are approved based on Horizon’s capacity and availability. Request Job Shadowing for Myself All Applicants must meet the following requirements: Proficiency in English: The language of work throughout Horizon Health Network is English in accordance with the Official Languages Act and the Regional Health Authorities Act. Childhood immunizations: A student without childhood immunizations is not permitted to complete a placement with Horizon. Childhood immunizations include immunization against red measles, rubella, mumps, and tetanus/diphtheria/pertussis (i.e., whooping cough).
