Innovative pilot project at Horizon’s Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital will keep public washrooms cleaner, quicker November 1, 2024 (HORIZON) – Horizon has launched a new, innovative clean washroom pilot project that uses QR technology in hospital washrooms, allowing users to provide real-time feedback on washroom cleanliness and to alert staff if supplies need to be restocked. This pilot aims to improve hospital visitor and patient experience, increase operational efficiency and overall washroom cleanliness. Through a partnership with Janitorial Manager, high-traffic, public washrooms at four Horizon hospitals will have QR codes displayed on the back of washroom doors. Users can scan the QR codes with their phones, allowing them to see when the washroom was last checked and to offer feedback. If a washroom needs attention,Environmental Services (EVS) staff will receive a notification in real-time. “Innovative projects like this are just one example of how Horizon is improving the overall experience for those visiting our hospitals and health care facilities,” said Jeff Carter, VP Capital Assets, Operations and Infrastructure. “We’re committed to ensuring our facilities are clean and safe. This project allows us to go above and beyond by ensuring hospital visitors can provide their feedback at any time, directly with our staff.” Horizon EVS staff will continue to check and clean the washrooms regularly based on best practice guidance and recommendations from within the health care standards. With this innovative tool, staff will now be alerted immediately if a washroom needs to be checked in between regular cleaning intervals. The project was launched at Horizon’s Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital (DECRH) in Fredericton last week. It will be expanded to the Saint John Regional Hospital, The Moncton Hospital, and Miramichi Regional Hospital in the coming months. “This launch is the first of its kind for Horizon, and we are excited to see the pilot implemented at the DECRH,” said Jennifer Sheils, VP Strategy, Transformation and Chief Innovation Officer (CIO). “After the 12-month pilot, we will review and evaluate the engagement uptick and overall effectiveness and scale the project accordingly.” – 30 – For more information contact: Kris McDavid Horizon Media Relations 1-877-499-1899 Media@HorizonNB.ca horizonnb.ca/news
