Pediatrics Clinic

What is a Pediatrics Clinic?

Horizon’s Pediatrics Clinics serve patients from birth until their 18th birthday. Our specialists help address a combination of developmental, behavioural, sensory, physical, and/or learning problems.

If your child requires immediate care for a serious illness, major trauma or other medical emergency: Tele-Care 811 is a free, confidential, health advice and information line. Dial 811 for access to bilingual, registered nurses, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In an emergency, call 911 or visit the local emergency department.

How is this service performed?

Our Pediatrics Clinics provide a range of health care services to diagnose, plan, treat, and support the child and family. Doctors, nursing and respiratory therapists who work in pediatrics are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our specialized team includes pediatricians, nursing, medical specialists, respiratory therapists, social work, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech language pathology, child life, clinical nutrition, psychology and spiritual and religious services.

Parents and families are the most important member of their child’s health care team. You are your child’s voice and a vital part of your child’s care team. While your child is here, we encourage you to actively participate in their care. Children are welcome to visit as long as they are supervised by an adult.

Family Presence at Horizon

If you have any questions about the care your child is receiving, please speak to a member of the pediatric care team. Our team is always available to answer your questions.

How do I access this service?

Your family physician or primary health care provider may refer you to our specialists for diagnosis and treatment based on your child’s condition.

How do I prepare for this service?

There is no preparation required. You may wish to make a list of what you want to discuss with our specialists. Many parents find it helpful to write a list of their concerns since writing these concerns ensures they don’t forget anything.

Once your child is admitted to the hospital, you will be given a tour of the unit so you and your child are comfortable with your surroundings.
