REDCap (Research Electronic Data Capture) is a secure, browser-based platform for building and managing research databases and surveys. Horizon Health Network hosts REDCap within the Government of New Brunswick’s data centre infrastructure.

What is REDCap

REDCap is a secure, web-based platform used worldwide to capture research data. While REDCap is tailored for research data collection, it is flexible enough for any type of data. Its user-friendly design requires no technical background, enabling researchers to independently set up and manage their projects. Learn more at Project REDCap.

Why Use REDCap at Horizon

Horizon REDCap is Canadian-hosted, secure, and aligned with Horizon privacy and HRPP/REB requirements. It supports Horizon investigators and external collaborators in multi-site studies and quality improvement projects, with robust tools for data capture, role-based permissions, and governance.

Appropriate Use

  • Research studies (include institutional approval number from Letter of Institutional Review and Approval in requests)
  • Databases/registries (include institutional approval number in requests)
  • Quality improvement / program evaluation projects
  • Operational support projects (avoid Personal Health Information [PHI] unless necessary and approved)


NOT for data required for clinical care

All users must accept the Terms of Acceptable Use

Who Can Access REDCap

  • Horizon staff and physicians involved in research, quality improvement, or approved operational projects
  • External collaborators listed on approved study documentation
  • Students/trainees with a Horizon sponsor (PI/supervisor)

*Accounts require annual re-approval (email reminders are sent)

How to Get Started

  1. Submit the account/project request form
  2. Provide REB documentation for research/registry projects (institutional approval #, letter, protocol)
