Pulmonary Rehab

What is this Pulmonary Rehab?

Pulmonary rehabilitation (rehab) includes exercise training, health education, and breathing techniques. It helps people with chronic lung disease, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and other conditions such as cystic fibrosis, pulmonary fibrosis, and sarcoidosis. Pulmonary rehab may also be done before and after lung surgery.

How is this service provided?

Your family physician or primary health care provider may recommend pulmonary rehabilitation to help you breathe better. The pulmonary rehab team may include physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, dietitians, and social workers. They will teach you the skills you need to live and breathe better, help you set realistic goals, and make it easier to manage routine activities, work, and outings or social activities you enjoy.

How can I access it?

If you are concerned about your breathing, please talk with your family physician or primary health care provider. You may then be referred to us for this service.

This program is not available at all sites, and class enrolment is limited.

How do I prepare for it?

You will undergo an assessment prior to enrolment. Education is open to a family member as well as the client. (the family member does not need to be enrolled in the program.  They participate only in the education sessions provided.

For your appointments, you should wear comfortable, non-restrictive clothes.
