Horizon Hires First Referred Registered Nurse from Referral Reward Program August 19, 2022 Meet Jade, one of the first Registered Nurses successfully referred and hired through the Horizon Referral Reward program! The Referral Reward is an exciting new part of Horizon’s recruitment strategy because it engages New Brunswickers, staff, and physicians in our growing recruitment efforts. A $1,000 reward is provided to any New Brunswick resident or Horizon employee for the successful recruitment and hiring of a Class A Registered Nurse (RN). Since the Referral Reward launched in June, Horizon has hired 6 RNs; 60 RNs have been referred in total and 26 of those are currently being assessed for eligibility. It is even helping to attract Internationally Educated Nurses. We had the chance to speak with Jade about her onboarding experience, and here’s what she said: Tell us about how you were referred to Horizon. “I have a friend who knew I was processing my application to become a Registered Nurse here in New Brunswick. By God’s grace, the application went smoothly. When I shared the good news with her, she asked me if I wanted to apply to their unit as they needed nurses and available positions had been posted. She directly referred me to the nurse manager, I was interviewed, and was successfully hired.” Where are you from? “I am from the Philippines where I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and worked as a nurse in Saudi Arabia for six years.” Why did you choose New Brunswick? “An opportunity came, and my husband was fortunately hired by a company in New Brunswick. We decided to move here in May 2018 and landed as temporary foreign workers. After more than a year, we’ve got our permanent residency and I decided to start the nursing accreditation here in Canada.” What was your onboarding experience like? “My application and onboarding experience was great. Working with one of Horizon’s Nursing Talent Acquisition Specialists was excellent. The application process was fast, and my questions and concerns were answered promptly. I was always updated regarding procedures and documents that need to be completed. Overall, the application was straight forward.” In case you missed it, we did an interview with Sarah, a Horizon Talent Acquisition Specialist, about what it’s like to recruit nurses right now, which you can read here. What aspects of the position made you want to work with Horizon? “Being a nurse is not just a job or position me – nursing is a noble job of offering TLC (tender, loving care), compassion and respect. Nursing is a continuous process of learning and I believe working at Horizon will make me a better nurse as I learn new skills everyday.” What are you looking forward to most in your new career with Horizon? “I am looking forward to working with great people who are willing to help and teach me and working in an environment that offers a greater challenge.” We are excited to have Jade join Horizon and cannot wait to see what she accomplishes in her career!
