Dr. Brandyn Chase, MScE, MD, FRCPC

Dr. Brandyn Chase completed his MD at Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick in 2015, and completed Internal Medicine Residency at Dalhousie University and Infectious Disease followship at the Ottawa Hospital/University of Ottawa. He currently works as an Infectious Disease Specialist at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton, NB. He has completed research projects on MRSA decolonization and the epidemiology of Tuberculosis in New Brunswick.  In his spare time, Dr. Chase enjoys spending time with his family. In his presentation, Dr. Chase will discuss noteworthy case studies and emerging ideas for managing complex wounds.

Tarik Alam RN, BScN, NSWOC, MClSc(WH)

Tarik Alam began his nursing career as a registered nurse in acute medicine and surgery at the McGill University Health Center. He obtained the position of Enterostomal Therapy Nurse Clinician in 2000 and completed his training from the Canadian Enterostomal Therapy Association. Tarik joined Hollister Canada in 2008 and presently works as the Clinical Affairs manager. He completed a Master Degree in Clinical Science Wound Healing from the University of Western Ontario. He is a former Adjunct Clinical Professor at the University of Western Ontario in the wound healing program and lectures at John Abbott and Dawson College in Montreal. He is also working occasionally as a nurse clinician in Montreal as a vaccinator in clinics.

Karla Lohnes, RN, MClSc-WH, BScN, NSWOC, WOCC(C)  

Karla received her BScN from Dalhousie University in 2008. She completed the NSWOCC – Wound, Ostomy and Continence Education Program in 2011 and became CNA certified in wound, ostomy and continence nursing in 2012.  She received her Master of Clinical Science-Wound Healing from Western University in October 2021.   

Karla works as an NSWOC at the QEII Health Sciences Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia. At the QEII, Karla has a large inpatient wound and ostomy practice as well as an outpatient ostomy clinic.   

Carolyne Brochu

Carolyne has 31 years of experience in nursing. She practiced 8 years in acute care and 4 years in long term care before starting her own private practice in 2001.

She was introduced to wound care in 2005 and was trained by the best Canadian and Quebec experts through Wounds Canada, UQAR (Université du Québec à Rimouski) and the CPC (Clinique de plaies complexes) team in Lévis, Qc., the most important reference center in wound care in the Quebec province.

She was part of the consultation committee when RQSP (Regroupement Québecois en soins de plaies) was created and was a board member for 4 years. She developed her expertise learning a lot from her patients, the very best teachers! She is now working as the Clinical support nurse for Eastern Canada at Smith+Nephew since 2018.

Hilary Hemsworth

Hilary has a health science background as a graduate of Acadia University with an honours degree in Biology and a minor in chemistry. She worked in education, and a medical library for two years before becoming involved in the medical/surgical supply industry in 2008. She joined Smith+Nephew in 2018, managing New Brunswick and PEI. 

Denise Nicholson BNRN, NSWOC WOCC(C)

Denise Nicholson is an RN, certified as a Nurse Specialized in Wound, Ostomy & Continence Care (NSWOCC) since 2015. She practices at the Moncton Hospital as a NSWOC while also covering the outpatient community in the area. Denise also lends her expertise to the Extra Mural Program in zone 1 area, the Sackville Memorial Hospital, the Salvus Clinic, and the Albert County Community Health Center. Denise has taken on a mentoring role for several new NSWOCs and nurses interested in wound or ostomy care. Denise is active in the Ostomy Society community and plans to continue volunteering her services as an RN and NSWOC to the Youth Ostomy Camp this summer in Alberta.

Melanie Phillips BNRN, NSWOC WOCC(C)

Melanie is an RN, certified as a Nurse Specialized in Wound, Ostomy & Continence Care (NSWOCC) since 2020. She practices along side Denise Nicholson at the Moncton Hospital as an NSWOC and covers the outpatient community in the area. Melanie also lends her expertise to the Extra Mural Program in zone 1 area, the Sackville Memorial Hospital, the Salvus Clinic, and the Albert County Community Health Center. Melanie is passionate about complex wound management with a focus on negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT).

Janice “Loop-D” Kenney RN BN CNN (c)

Referred to by most as Loop-D, Janice graduated from SJSN in 1981 and completed her Bachelors at UNBSJ in 2006. Neuro Nursing has always been her passion; she has enjoyed working and learning from her patients, their families and colleagues for the past 41 years. Aside from being an excellent clinician, Janice infuses humour into her work and will be sharing how she keeps laughing during the constant challenges in nursing.

Margaret Hiler MSN, RN, CWOCN

Margaret Hiler earned both Bachelor’s and Master’s in Science of Nursing from University of Southern Maine and has varied experience on Cardiac, Vascular, Surgical and Progressive Care nursing units in roles including leadership and education. She completed the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurse Education Program at Emory University and has been certified since 2012. She has authored several posters presented at Regional and National WOCN Society conferences including the award winning poster in 2016 for decreasing device related pressure injuries. She is the current president of the Washington DC Affiliate of the WOCN Society. She now works at a community hospital in her own neighborhood in Alexandria, Virginia where she lives with her husband and four sons.

Kelly Tyrrell, BSN, RN, CWCN with 3M

Kelly is a Wound Care Clinical Specialist and has been with 3M for 4 years. As part of her role, she delivers continuing education courses and provides education to health care employees covering advanced wound care principles and wound therapy product application. In addition to her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Arizona State University, she is also a Certified Wound Care Nurse. Kelly is actively pursuing her Master in Science in Nursing with an emphasis on Leadership in Healthcare Systems from Grand Canyon University.

Angela McGinn, RN (Ret.), NSWOCC

Angela has been with ConvaTec for 25 years as a Territory Manager and Clinical Educator for Newfoundland and Labrador. Angela received her NSWOCC designation in 2001 and has extensive experience in wound, ostomy and continence care. She is an invaluable member of our team and helps to provide support to our customers across all four Atlantic provinces .

Keri Coulson, RN, BN, NSWOC(C)

Keri Coulson grew up in Nackawic New Brunswick and after high school moved to Fredericton to attend the University of New Brunswick.  In 1991 she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Nursing.  After completion of her degree, she worked   17 years in various critical care departments in Atlantic Canada and Houlton Maine.  Her last critical care job was in the CCU/ICU units of the Colchester East Hants Hospital in Truro, Nova Scotia from 2003-2008.

From 2008-2012 she was employed at the Colchester Regional Hospital as a urology clinic nurse.   During this time, she completed her Nurse Continence Advisor Certification through McMaster University Distance Education Program (2010).  In 2012 the new Colchester East Hants Health Centre opened, and she also began working in the gynecology clinics.

In 2015 -2016 she completed her Nurse Specialized in Wound, Ostomy and Continence (NSWOC) certification. In 2019 She obtained her Canadian Nurses Association Certification in Wound, Ostomy and Continence, WOCC(C). Since February of 2016 she has been employed as an NSWOC at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre.  

Keri is very passionate about continence management and care, and she has spoken at local, regional, and national events on this topic.  She has also been involved in best practice recommendation projects in wound, ostomy, and continence at the local, provincial, and national level.
