Temporary closures at Horizon Emergency Departments

HORIZON – Due to an increase in COVID-19 cases Horizon is facing nursing and physician shortages which has led to the need for temporary closures in the following Emergency Departments (ED):

The ED at Horizon’s Sussex Health Centre will be temporarily closed for the evening and night shifts all weekend.

  • Friday, July 8, 2022 from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 a.m.
  • Saturday, July 9, 2022 from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 a.m.
  • Sunday, July 10, 2022 from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 a.m.

The ED at Horizon’s Sackville Memorial Hospital will be temporarily closed all weekend and reopen Monday July 11, 2022 at 8 a.m.

  • Saturday, July 9, 2022 – Closed
  • Sunday, July 10, 2022 – Closed

The Emergency Departments at both Horizon facilities will not be seeing patients and clients during these temporary closures and ambulances will be diverted to other hospitals.

All patients and clients requiring urgent medical care will need to seek treatment at other hospitals.

As always, people experiencing a medical emergency should call 911. Additionally, people with non-urgent medical needs can call Tele-Care 811 if they have any questions about the type of medical attention they require, or book a virtual appointment through eVisitNB.

Horizon apologizes for any inconvenience these temporary closures may cause. We are actively working to recruit physicians and nurses to reduce temporary closures and resume services to the communities we serve. Horizon remains committed to providing safe and quality care, and the decision to temporarily close the ED is made to ensure  safe care for our patients and clients.
