Shortage of Emergency Department staff at Horizon’s Miramichi Regional Hospital today, this weekend

MIRAMICHI – Horizon’s Miramichi Regional Hospital (MRH) Emergency Department (ED) is facing a critical shortage of staff beginning Friday, July 15 through Sunday, July 17.

Because of this, Horizon is requesting those with non-urgent medical needs to consider alternate options for care, such as visiting an after-hours clinic, calling Tele-Care 811, consulting with a pharmacist or booking a virtual appointment through E-Visit NB.

Please remember: our ED teams are always there to treat patients in an emergency!

If you have a medical emergency, please call 911 or proceed to the nearest emergency department.

Patients with non-urgent medical issues will experience long wait times as we prioritize the sickest and most vulnerable patients.

The following after-hours clinics are available in the Miramichi area:

  • Miramichi East After Hours Clinic (4 Johnson Ave.) – Open Monday to Friday, 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. To make an appointment, please call 778-9942 or visit:
  • Newcastle After Hours Clinic (250 Pleasant St.) – Open Monday to Friday, 6 to 8 p.m., walk-in only
