New prenatal care program for pregnant individuals in the Fredericton area without a primary care provider

All New Brunswickers deserve accessible and quality health care and a positive patient experience, and this initiative is one example of how Horizon is committed to providing that every day.

(FREDERICTON) – Horizon is launching a new prenatal care program for pregnant individuals in Fredericton without a primary care provider.

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Horizon’s Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital (DECRH) will provide access to an obstetrician for pregnant individuals in the Fredericton area without access to a primary care provider for the duration of their pregnancy.

This six-month pilot, beginning June 5, 2023, is expected to help approximately 40 pregnant individuals a month.

“Ensuring pregnant individuals have access to care during such a critical time aligns with our critical action plan of providing access to safe and quality services,” said Margaret Melanson, Horizon’s interim President and CEO. “Thanks to our dedicated staff and physicians, we’ll be able to help these expecting individuals receive the consistent prenatal care they need.”

Pregnant individuals in the Fredericton area without a primary care provider can self-refer to this program at any time during their pregnancy. To register for this program, call 506-259-0798.

Improving access to care for New Brunswickers is a key priority for Horizon’s plan to ensure all New Brunswickers receive the quality care they need.  This plan consists of three other priorities, including the retention and recruitment of physicians, nurses and staff; improving overall patient experience; and improving patient flow at our health care facilities. Further details about Horizon’s four priority areas are available at HorizonNB.ca. This initiative also supports the Government of New Brunswick’s provincial health plan, Stabilizing Health Care: An Urgent Call to Action.
