Horizon’s Women’s Health Centre hosting Pap test clinic

SAINT JOHN – Horizon’s St. Joseph’s Hospital is hosting a walk-in Pap test clinic in the Women’s Health Centre on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2022 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. No appointment necessary.

The Pap test is the only way to detect abnormal cells in the cervix which, if left untreated, could develop into cancer. This type of screening test can help detected abnormalities before symptoms develop. Pap tests are recommended for those ages 21 to 69, every one to three years, depending on your previous results.

According to the Canadian Cancer Society an estimated 1,450 people will be diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2022 and an estimated 380 will die from the disease. The good news is since 1996, the incidence of cervical cancer has declined and, since 1995, mortality rates have also decreased. Knowledge, vaccination and screening are key to help reduce the number of people dying needlessly from this largely preventable cancer.

Please register with your Medicare card in the main lobby. The clinic takes place on the 9th floor.
