Horizon’s Sackville Memorial Hospital Emergency Department temporarily closed this weekend

SACKVILLE – Horizon wishes to advise the public that due to a shortage of physician coverage, the Emergency Department at Horizon’s Sackville Memorial Hospital will be closed this weekend.

The Sackville Memorial Hospital ED will be temporarily closed all weekend. The ED will close at 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16 and reopen Monday, Sept. 19, 2022, at 8 a.m.

  • Saturday, Sept. 17, 2022 – Closed
  • Sunday, Sept. 18, 2022 – Closed

All patients requiring emergency medical care will need to be treated at another hospital. All ambulances will be diverted to other hospitals.  If you are experiencing a medical emergency, please visit your nearest Emergency Department or call 911.

For non-urgent medical needs, we encourage Sackville-area residents to continue to use other options, such as Tele-Care 811; pharmacies; virtual care, such as eVisitNB.ca; and after-hours clinics. More information on these options is available at SoWhyWait.ca.

If residents are unsure if their medical condition is urgent, please call Tele-Care 811 to discuss the type of medical attention needed.

The decision to temporarily close the ED is made to ensure safe care for our patients and clients.

Horizon remains committed to providing safe and quality care, and we are actively working to recruit physicians and nurses to the communities we serve to reduce temporary closures and resume services. This is currently one of Horizon’s top priorities. Further details about Horizon’s plan and its four priority areas are available at HorizonNB.ca.
