Patients at Horizon’s Saint John Regional Hospital now have access to innovative PET/CT Scanner February 5, 2025 (SAINT JOHN) – Horizon’s Saint John Regional Hospital (SJRH) has taken an innovative step forward in medical imaging with the introduction of a new PET/CT scanner. SJRH is the first clinical site in Canada to go live with the OMNI Legend PET/CT scanner, and it positions the facility among world-class research institutions like Stanford University in the U.S. and London Health Sciences Centre in Canada, as an early adopter of the state-of-the-art technology. The imaging system provides detailed, high-quality images of the body, showing both how tissues and organs look and how they are functioning. It helps doctors detect diseases earlier, plan treatments more precisely, and monitor progress effectively. It is designed to assist in diagnosing, staging, and monitoring diseases like cancer, heart disease, and neurological conditions. “We are excited to introduce this advanced PET/CT scanner at SJRH since it reflects Horizon’s commitment to providing precise diagnostics and a more comfortable patient experience, while strengthening health care services in our area,” said Jeff Carter, Vice President Quality, Patient Experience and Professional Services. This innovative system utilizes intuitive workflow solutions, enhanced by artificial intelligence (AI), to help create a more enjoyable patient experience, improve operational efficiency, increase diagnostic power, and ideally lead to improved patient outcomes. It means more comfortable scans that feel less clinical and more patient-centric, offering a faster, quieter, and more calming environment while still delivering precise diagnostic results. This makes the OMNI Legend scanner particularly beneficial for patients who may be nervous, in pain, or undergoing lengthy treatment regimens. “Innovation and technology are vital to advancing patient care. At Horizon, we are dedicated to leveraging leading-edge technology to improve health outcomes and enhance the patient experience,” said Celina Bountalas, Director of Medical Imaging for the Saint John area. – 30 – For more information contact: Maggie Estey Media Relations 1-877-499-1899 Media@HorizonNB.ca horizonnb.ca/news
