Horizon’s Women’s Health Centre hosting Pap test clinic

October 23, 2023

SAINT JOHN – Horizon’s St. Joseph’s Hospital is hosting a walk-in Pap test clinic in the Women’s Health Centre on Thursday, Oct. 26, 2023, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the 9th floor. No appointment necessary.

Pap tests are the only way to detect abnormal cells in the cervix, which, if left untreated, could develop into cancer. This type of screening test can help detect abnormalities before symptoms develop.

Pap tests are recommended for those ages 21 to 69 every one to three years, depending on your previous results.

In 2022, the Canadian Cancer Society estimated 1,450 people would be diagnosed with cervical cancer during the year and an estimated 380 would die from the disease. The good news is since 1996, the incidence of cervical cancer has declined, and since 1995, mortality rates have also decreased. Knowledge, vaccination and screening are key to helping reduce the number of people dying needlessly from this largely preventable cancer.

Please register with your Medicare card in the St. Joseph’s Hospital main lobby.
