Horizon recruitment efforts generating positive results August 18, 2022 HORIZON – Horizon has successfully hired nearly 1,300 health care workers since the beginning of April 2022. This rate of recruitment through the first five months of the fiscal year matches the organization’s typical recruitment for a full year. This includes significant progress in the field of nursing, which makes up more than half the overall recruitment figure recorded for fiscal 2022-23 so far. “This is a very encouraging update, one that reflects Horizon’s commitment to doing whatever it takes to identify, recruit and ultimately retain top talent in the health care field,” said Margaret Melanson, Horizon’s Interim President and CEO. “While there is still much more work to be done, we are taking an innovative, outside-the-box approach to recruitment with several exciting initiatives already underway. I look forward to sharing our progress on this crucial file moving forward.” Since April 1, Horizon talent acquisition specialists have successfully recruited and onboarded 240 Registered Nurses (RNs), 163 Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and 288 Personal Care Attendants (PCAs), in addition to hundreds of allied health professionals and support service workers across several fields of expertise. Gail Lebel, Horizon’s VP and Chief Human Resource Officer says this encouraging update is evidence of the organization’s firm commitment to addressing staffing challenges in the health care system through dynamic, targeted, and aggressive recruitment tactics which will help position the organization for future success. “The recruitment team has aggressive hiring targets, and the team is working collaboratively with internal and external partners and introducing new talent streams to meet our goals – we are very proud of our recruitment professionals who use innovative best practices to attract healthcare workers,” Lebel said. Horizon is committed to keeping the public informed of our recruitment progress moving forward. Soon Horizon’s nursing recruitment results will be available to members of the media and the public on HorizonNB.ca. The numbers will update in real-time and show progress toward our nursing targets for this fiscal year. The organization has set a target of hiring 708 RNs in fiscal 2022-23 and has achieved 34 per cent of that objective as of the end of July 2022. Several initiatives are in-progress as Horizon works to strengthen its reputation as an employer of choice in the health care sector, to not only recruit high-caliber personnel but to retain them for the long-term. To help facilitate this, Horizon maintains approximately 160 unique partnerships with educational and training institutions on a local, national and international level, while facilitating the placement of over 5,000 students annually across our network. Of that total, Horizon has welcomed over 250 students this summer who have provided valuable support to our operations.
