(HORIZON) – Horizon Health Network (Horizon) is pleased to announce that it is the first health care organization in Atlantic Canada, and among the first in Canada, to join the Menopause Foundation of Canada’s (MFC’s) national Menopause Works Here campaign.

An official campaign kick-off event in Fredericton held earlier today featured a panel discussion and keynote presentation from Dr. Christa Mullaly, a Horizon obstetrician and gynecologist in Fredericton.

The campaign promotes menopause-inclusive workplaces and encourages Canadian employers to demonstrate their support for the wellbeing of employees experiencing menopause.

The MFC-led campaign encourages Canadian employers to recognize menopause as a workplace issue and support the health, wellbeing and dignity of employees navigating this life stage.

“As the first health care organization in Atlantic Canada to join this initiative with the Menopause Foundation of Canada, Horizon is leading the way in embedding systemic wellbeing efforts into the fabric of our organization,” said Horizon President and CEO Margaret Melanson. “This is a reflection of the kind of workplace we are striving to build. One where people are not only respected for the roles they fill, but for the full, complex, and human lives they lead.”

Menopause is a significant health and wellbeing experience that can affect many employees during their lifetime. Symptoms can significantly impact productivity, mental health and job satisfaction, yet stigma and silence often leave employees unsupported at work.

By joining the campaign, Horizon is demonstrating its commitment to leading inclusive, people-centred healthcare workplaces. The initiative aligns with Horizon’s strategic pillar of People at their Best and represents a new Our Promise Initiative.

“This initiative is both timely and necessary,” said Brittany Stein, Horizon’s Regional Director of Wellbeing and Safety. “Supporting employees through every life stage is not just good health practice, it’s essential for retaining our top talent and fostering a compassionate, high-performing organization.”

As part of its campaign activation, Horizon has developed an internal resource hub on menopause in the workplace and will host education events throughout October during Menopause Awareness Month. The organization will also share employee stories and experiences to normalize menopause conversations and reduce stigma.

“We’re pleased to see major Canadian employers stepping up, proving that support doesn’t have to be complicated to be meaningful,” said Janet Ko, President and Co-Founder of the Menopause Foundation of Canada. “It begins with simply starting the conversation, helping to break down long-held stigmas and showing that menopause works everywhere.”

More than 180 Canadian organizations have joined the Menopause Works Here campaign, including University Health Network, BMO, Sun Life, L’Oréal Canada and PwC Canada.

Horizon is pleased to join these leading organizations while contributing a health care voice to the national dialogue on menopause at work.
