Dr. Suma S. Satya received her medical degree from the University of Sydney, Australia before pursuing a career in obstetrics and gynecology through the University of Manitoba. Dr. Satya then went on to complete a fellowship program in minimally invasive gynecological surgery at the University of Toronto before joining Horizon’s Saint John Regional Hospital in 2009.

Dr. Satya’s clinical interests include gynecological surgery, and in 2009, she spearheaded the first total laparascopic hysterectomy in New Brunswick, a minimally-invasive surgery to remove the uterus. In addition to her clinical responsibilities, Dr. Satya is an active teacher, mentor and preceptor for medical students, family medicine residents, and obstetrics and gynecology residents and has been the site director for Dalhousie University’s Faculty of Medicine OBGYN Residency Program. In 2016 and 2019, Dr. Satya received the Dalhousie Faculty of Medicine’s Russell Webster Teaching Award for providing an exceptional educational experience for residents. She was awarded the Carl Nimrod Educator of the Year Award for Dalhousie University in 2013.

When not at work, Suma enjoys being a mother of two lovely children, hiking, biking and kayaking. She loves travelling and exploring the world.
