Dr. Sajni Thomas Clinical Department HeadDepartment of Family MedicineSaint John AreaMD, MCFP Dr. Sajni Thomas received her medical degree from Dalhousie University in 1980, and established her family medicine practice in Saint John in 1981 after completing her internship. In addition to her role as Clinical Academic Department Head of Family Medicine for the Saint John area, Dr. Thomas is a member of the Family Doctor Obstetric Group, Hospitalist Program, and Women’s Health Group. She is on various committees including: Credentials, Local Medical Advisory Committee, Patient Flow, Family Medicine Network, Family Medicine Teaching Executive Committee, Clinical Order Sets, Council of Clinical Heads, the Women’s Health and Newborn Program, and Group Contact/Leader for COVID-19 Rapid Response Team Region 2. She also had been on New Brunswick Medical Society’s Economic Committee for many years. Dr. Thomas has been a member of the Canadian Medical Association, New Brunswick Medical Society, and College of Family Physicians of Canada for several decades. She has been a member of the Federation of Medical Women of Canada (FMWC) since joining as a medical student in 1975, and has served multiple positions in the FMWC including regional director for the Atlantic region, president, and PAP Campaign chair. Dr. Thomas is also a Board Member of the Medical Women of Canada Foundation. In 2008, Dr. Thomas received the FMWC’s May Cohen Award for dedication and leadership to the medical profession, and her strong advocacy work for better and more accessible medical care for women in need. In 2009, she received the Dr. R. T. Craig Award from the Saint John Medical Society for community leadership. When not at work, Sajni enjoys shopping, travelling, volleyball, and of course, spending quality time with her three children, two grandchildren, and hubby.
