Dr. Margot Burnell

Dr. Margot Burnell has served as Chief of Staff for the Saint John area since September 2017 and brings over thirty years of experience as an oncologist in Saint John to her role. Before becoming Chief of Staff, Dr. Burnell was the Clinical Academic Department Head of Oncology at Horizon’s Saint John Regional Hospital (SJRH) for over a decade. Born and raised in Windsor, Ont., Dr. Burnell attended medical school at the University of Western Ontario and undertook her residency in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology at the University of Toronto. She then spent a fellowship year at the Royal Marsden Hospital, London, U.K. Since that time, she has been working in Saint John, dedicating her professional career to the care of cancer patients, families, and their care providers. As an active member of the SJRH, she has sat on many hospitals, provincial and national committees, including the Local Medical Advisory Committee, the Medication Management Committee, and the Provincial Drugs and Therapeutics Committee and has been an active member of the Regional Medical Advisory Committee since 2013.
