Dr. Arpita Sengupta received Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Chemistry in India, prior to moving to Canada in 1992. She then completed a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Dalhousie University, Halifax. She interrupted her education to raise two sons, and then pursued a career in medicine.

She completed her MD from the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, followed by residency training in Radiation Oncology at Dalhousie University. Dr. Sengupta then pursued advanced clinical training in Stereotactic Ablative Body Radiotherapy (SABR) and Breast Cancer at the Juravinski Cancer Centre, McMaster University, Hamilton. She joined Horizon’s Saint John Regional Hospital in 2021.

Dr. Sengupta’s clinical interests include radiation treatment for breast and lung cancer, stereotactic ablative body radiotherapy. She currently treats breast, lung, upper GI and gynecological malignancies and provides palliative radiation treatments as well. In addition to her clinical responsibilities, Dr. Sengupta is actively involved in teaching medical students, and residents in Radiation Oncology. During residency, she was involved in a research program for Transition to practice, to help residents progress towards independent practice.

Dr. Sengupta continues to learn and perform classical piano. She loves to travel around the world with her family.
