Teaching and Research Stan Cassidy Centre For Rehabilitation Adult Services Paediatric Services Rehabilitation Physician (Physiatrist) Research Teaching Research Overview The Stan Cassidy Centre is an active site for local, national, and international clinical studies involving persons who have neurological and neuromuscular injuries and diseases. Research includes trialing new medications in both Blinded and Open-Label studies, and studies with an overall focus on translating discoveries and knowledge into better healthcare practices. Studies are carried out by our research team on-site and in partnership with collaborators. Our Team Dr. Colleen O’Connell, SCCR Medical Director & Research Chief Our Research Department is led by our medical director and research chief, Dr. Colleen O’Connell. Other team members include our Research Manager, Registered Nurses, and Research Assistant. Undergraduate and medical students are hosted each summer as research trainees. The Research Department has support and participation from other disciplines at SCCR, including Physiatry, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Psychology, Recreation Therapy, Nursing, and more. If you are asked about participating in one of our studies, please consider it! Participating in research may or may not benefit you personally, but it does contribute to new knowledge that will help others. Partner with research. Our research team and our partners are committed to engaging persons with lived experience, family members, and caregivers in all aspects of research, from coming up with ideas to designing studies to sharing results. Our Research SCCR typically has an ongoing number of active projects focused on several diagnoses. Our research surrounds practice-changing research, which redefines the way patient care is practiced and managed at SCCR and around the world. We identify questions that are important to clinicians and patients, then design and perform trials to provide the needed evidence to inform practice.
