Therapeutic Services

Therapeutic Services, under the governance of the Professional Services portfolio, are provided in the hospital sector across Horizon Health Network to inpatients and outpatients of all ages in 15 hospitals, and 14 community health facilities.

They include 9 professional disciplines who assist and empower individuals in the development of new or improved skills or attitudes which help them function optimally despite challenges related to their health circumstances.

Outpatient Referral Process

How to Refer

  • Patients can be referred by their primary care provider/surgeon or other specialist for all Therapeutic services
    • Patients may also self-refer for outpatient Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Language Pathology , Audiology, and Clinical Nutrition (also offered in Petitcodiac 506-756-3400 and at the Port Elgin Regional Health Centre call 1-833-944-0860), by calling 1-833-944-0860 to schedule an appointment.
  • Services that require a prescribed referral or process are noted in the descriptions. NB-ISAEC, Videofluoroscopic Swallowing Studies (VFSS), and Videonystagmography (VNG).

Patients & Family Members

Many Horizon Health Network Therapeutic Services do not require a physician referral.

Open Access Booking (OAB) is used in the Fredericton and Upper River Valley area for most appointment types with the following services:

  • Audiology
  • Clinical Nutrition
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Physiotherapy
  • Speech-Language Pathology (except for swallowing difficulties which requires a medical referral)

To schedule an appointment, simply call 1-833-928-2070.  An appointment date and time will be provided during that call.  This information can also be found on our appointment card.

 

The following services can be accessed by calling the department directly.  Contact information can be found on the back of the Therapeutic Services Outpatient Referral Form.

  • Psychology
  • Cardiac Rehabilitation
  • Children’s Rehabilitation Teams (0-5yrs)
  • Eating Disorder Clinic at Hotel-Dieu of St. Joseph
  • VNG referrals to Audiology (ENT referral is required for this assessment)

 

Community Health Centres (CHCs) are continuing to accept referrals as they do currently but are also open to OAB given shared scheduling and clinical resource to many of these service areas.
