Focus area/projects: In his current role with Horizon, Dr. Brymer will lend his background and expertise in neuroscience and applied research to a variety of health system impact projects, including post stroke spasticity, inflammatory bowel disease, ovarian cancer, and multiple sclerosis.

Background: Prior to joining Horizon, Dr. Brymer worked with NBCC’s College Office of Research Enterprise as a Research Associate. With NBCC, he gained expertise in managing large scale, applied research projects, and played a critical role in securing sustainability funding for two Healthy Senior Pilot Projects and establishing Functional Genomics capacity at the SJ campus.

Dr. Brymer completed postdoctoral training at Memorial University where he conducted preclinical research on the role of glutamate clearance in Alzheimer’s disease pathogenesis. Dr. Brymer received his PhD in neuroscience from the University of Saskatchewan, with his dissertation research examining novel, fast-acting antidepressants in an animal model of depression. Dr. Brymer completed his bachelor’s degree in psychology at UNB.
