(MIRAMICHI) – The installation of a new state-of-the-art computed tomography (CT) scanner at Horizon’s Miramichi Regional Hospital now offers patients increased access to high-quality medical imaging services. With the installation of a second CT scanner, the facility can now deliver faster scans to even more patients.

This investment reflects Horizon’s commitment to enhancing access to high-quality health care for the Miramichi community. The addition of this advanced CT scanner will boost scanning capacity, help reduce wait times, and improve access to essential imaging services.

“Investing in this CT scanner at Miramichi Regional Hospital is a notable step in our strategy to improve patient care in the region,” said Jeff Carter, Horizon’s Vice President, Quality, Patient Experience and Professional Services. “This advanced equipment will provide timely and precise diagnostic services, meeting the evolving needs of our patients.”

The newly installed Siemens SOMATOM X.cite scanner offers several patient-friendly features, including a wider-than-normal opening that provides more space to help patients feel comfortable and relaxed. It also features an overhead 3D camera for faster patient positioning, along with a tablet-based mobile workflow that allows technologists to spend more time with patients before scans begin.

“I am very pleased to see the addition of a new CT scanner at Miramichi Regional Hospital. The investment in this specialized equipment will help ensure patients in the Miramichi region have more timely access to high-quality medical imaging services when they need them,” said Health Minister John Dornan. “This is another example of how we are working together with our partners to improve access to health-care services for New Brunswickers.”

Since installation on January 27, over 200 patients have received their CT scan using the new scanner, thanks to the dedication of Miramichi’s Medical Imaging team in mastering this advanced technology.

Horizon extends its gratitude to the Miramichi Regional Hospital Foundation for their generous support in making this service enhancement possible. Their assistance in this purchase reflects a shared commitment to advancing health care services in the Miramichi region.
