Temporary adjustment of services in the Labour and Birth Unit at Horizon’s Miramichi Regional Hospital

MIRAMICHI – Due to COVID-19 several nursing staff are off work requiring Horizon’s Miramichi Regional Hospital (MRH) to temporarily adjust its services in its labour and delivery unit from Friday, Jan. 14, 2022 at 5 p.m. – Tuesday, Jan. 18 at 7 a.m.

During this time the labour and delivery department will remain open and all expectant parents will continue to proceed to Miramichi Regional Hospital to be assessed.

In consultation with a physician, some expectant parents in the early stages of labour, and who are assessed as low risk, may be asked to travel to the Chaleur Regional Hospital in Bathurst to deliver their baby. An ambulance will be available to transport if necessary.

Parents with labours that are advancing quickly or requiring emergency delivery will continue to deliver their baby at MRH.

Horizon made this temporary adjustment in service to ensure our ability to maintain safe and quality care.

Horizon understands this temporary adjustment of services may be concerning to families. If you have any questions about how this temporary change affects your pregnancy, please call the Labour and Birth Unit at 506-623-3205.
