Staffing Challenges at Horizon’s Fredericton area Emergency Departments June 17, 2021 (FREDERICTON) – The Emergency Departments at Horizon’s Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital (DECRH) in Fredericton and Horizon’s Oromocto Public Hospital (OPH) are facing challenges related to physician coverage. Horizon is working with the medical community to find solutions in order to maintain safe and quality services. At this time, there are no changes to services. We continue to ask the public to only visit the ED if they require emergency care. Patients with non-urgent medical issues may experience long wait times if they present to the emergency department as we prioritize patients with medical emergencies. People are encouraged to call Tele-Care 811 if they have any questions about the type of medical attention they need, and to visit SoWhyWait.ca for more information about other health care options available in the Fredericton area. As always, if you have a medical emergency, please call 911. We are committed to keeping the public updated on our progress, and would like to thank the dedicated nursing and physician staff at OPH and DECRH for their service. – 30 – For more information contact: Kris McDavidMedia Relations1-877-499-1899media@horizonnb.cahorizonnb.ca/news
