New Temporary Service Hours at Horizon’s Sackville Memorial Hospital Emergency Department to take effect November 18, 2021 Horizon wishes to remind the public that effective Friday, Nov. 19, 2021, the updated hours of operation for the Emergency Department (ED) at Horizon’s Sackville Memorial Hospital (SMH) will be: Monday to Sunday: 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. (seven days a week) Because of this temporary change, emergency care will not be offered during the evening or night, and all patients and clients requiring medical care outside of these service hours will need to seek treatment at another hospital. People are encouraged to call Tele-Care 811 if they have any questions about the type of medical attention they need. As always, if you have a medical emergency, please call 911. We apologize for any inconvenience this temporary change in hours of service may cause. This temporary change in service was necessary for Horizon to continue offering safe and quality care to our patients and clients. This temporary change in service hours is due to a physician and nursing shortage. The emergency department at Horizon’s Sackville Memorial Hospital has been regularly faced with staffing shortages that have led to frequent coverage issues. Once again, we would stress that Horizon is fully committed to keeping ED services in place at Sackville Memorial Hospital open and we are continuing our efforts to actively recruit physicians and RNs to the Sackville area. – 30 – For more information contact: Kris McDavid Media Relations 1-877-499-1899 media@horizonnb.ca horizonnb.ca/news
