Horizon’s 2020 Community Health Recognition Award recipients announced June 25, 2020 (HORIZON) – Horizon Health Network (Horizon) announced its 15 Community Health Recognition Award (CHRA) recipients at its quarterly Board meeting, which was held today over Zoom. In previous years, the CHRA recipients were announced and presented with their award in -person at the April Board meeting, but that meeting was cancelled due to the increased focus on the COVID-19 pandemic. With important work continuing to improve the overall health in our communities, Horizon wanted to recognize the CHRA recipients at the next possible opportunity. Horizon’s Local Community Engagement Committees (LCEC) selected the 2020 CHRA recipients prior to the onset of COVID-19 in New Brunswick. There were more than 40 submissions, and three were selected in each the Fredericton, Miramichi, Moncton, Saint John and Upper River Valley areas. Recipients were awarded $500 towards their program or service, an award and a certificate. Karen McGrath, president and CEO of Horizon, said all the submissions showed such great community spirit and she is proud to know Horizon’s partners are hard at work to make the healthy choice the easy choice in their communities. “As safely as we can, considering the circumstances, we wanted to celebrate and acknowledge the important work you’re doing every day,” said McGrath. “I look forward to the day when I can visit your communities again and see first-hand the work you’re doing. It’s important and we’re very proud to honour it.” Jean Daigle, VP of Community for Horizon, said meeting the award recipients and seeing the remarkable work they do is something he looks forward to each year. “Things are a little different this year, but the tremendous work being done continues,” said Daigle. “If anything, this work is more crucial as we work through this pandemic. Despite COVID-19, they’re continuing to help people be healthy every single day – and for that, they should be proud.” Award recipients and the categories for which they won are as follows: Fredericton Chimo Helpline – Mental Health Dr. Daniel Fletcher – Physicians Charlie Shannon – Health and Wellness Miramichi Autism Swim – Miramichi – Accessibility Femmes Fortes – Health and Wellness David Peter Paul – Metepenagiag Mi’kmaq First Nation – Community Champion Moncton Atlantic Wellness – Mental Health Newborn New Life – Health and Wellness Urban/Rural Rides – Accessibility Saint John BiblioBuzz – Community Champion Crafts and Conversation – Community Champion Pathways to Education – Health and Wellness Upper River Valley Hartland Helps Homeless – Community Champion Food Locker – Brooklyn Graye – Food Security Wheels to Wellness – Accessibility For more information on the awards, please contact: engagement@HorizonNB.ca – 30 – For more information contact: Kris McDavidMedia Relations1-877-499-1899Media@HorizonNB.cawww.HorizonNB.ca
