CEO Statement on Nursing Recruitment Efforts at Horizon

(HORIZON) – Horizon has maintained an aggressive, proactive and innovative approach to recruit health care professionals, in particular nursing staff, over the course of the past year, despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Government of New Brunswick, regional health authorities, academic institutions, unions and professional associations need to work together and find solutions to recruit nurses.

In response to comments made by the NBNU President, Horizon would like to clarify with the following information:

As of April 22, 2021, Horizon is recruiting to hire 17 Nurse Practitioners (NP), 446 Registered Nurses (RN) and 103 Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN), in all areas and specialties. Some positions may require experience; however, we do have available positions for new graduates of NP, RN, and LPN programs and encourage them to apply.

The University of New Brunswick (UNB) offers an LPN- BN Nursing Pathway (bridging program) where previous education is credited towards a Bachelor of Nursing. We have had a number of our staff complete this program.

We hope our partners will bring forward any concerns or issues they encounter so we can address them and find solutions that lead to more nurses being hired.

Horizon is hiring and we have a team in place to support interested candidates. We encourage anyone who is looking for a position to contact careers@horizonnb.ca and a recruitment advisor will promptly connect with you.
