Getting tested in New Brunswick

If you have:

  • ONE of the following symptoms: fever, or loss of sense of taste or smell;

or

  • TWO of the following symptoms: a new cough or worsening chronic cough, difficulty breathing, sore throat, runny nose, headache, diarrhea, new onset of fatigue or purple markings on the fingers and toes of children

All testing is reserved for symptomatic people or for individuals working in specific settings such as a hospital, Extra Mural and Ambulance New Brunswick (EM/ANB), long-term care facility, correctional facility or shelter or if you are a person who is precariously housed or for individuals requiring a PCR test for international travel.

To help determine what type of test you need please click on the link and complete the online form. This will tell you if you need a PCR lab-based test, a POCT rapid test or if no testing is required right now.

Horizon’s COVID-19 Assessment Centres offer appointments for patients with symptoms of Coronavirus (COVID-19), as well as those who’ve been directed by Public Health to be tested for COVID-19. Testing is essential to help reduce the risk of the spread of COVID-19 in New Brunswick.

Following an assessment by Tele-Care, if you require an in-person assessment (COVID-19 test), a referral will be sent to a COVID-19 Assessment Centre. Staff at the assessment centre will contact you to schedule an appointment; this should be completed within 24 hours, but it will depend on the number of referrals.

These are not walk-in clinics. Hours may vary at each location, depending on the volume of referrals received.

A health care provider will provide an assessment and medical advice and guidance, and complete the screening test. The health care team may include a physician, nurse practitioner, Registered Nurse or a Licensed Practical Nurse.

New Brunswick offers two options for COVID-19 testing in children and youth. Find information about the process and what to expect here.

In an emergency, or if you are experiencing severe symptoms, please call 911 or call ahead to your local Emergency Department so they can prepare for your arrival. Individuals should not come to the Emergency Department for a COVID-19 test or to obtain their results.

If you’ve been directed to one of these sites by Tele-Care 811, have a look at this virtual tour so you know what to expect.
