Horizon’s look back at 2021

How can we possibly recap 2021? It was a year of ups and downs, highs and lows, love and loss.

New Brunwickers lived through an entire calendar year of the COVID-19 pandemic, where the only constant was change. We’re coming out the other side stronger and more thankful than ever for our dedicated staff and physicians and the people in our communities.

During 2021, we provided you with A LOT of information and we welcomed many new followers on our social channels and website users. In fact, over 1.3 million of you visited our website, recording over 4 million pageviews! 

At Horizon, we strive to share the information you need to be informed and up to date. Thank you for trusting us to provide you with reliable and accurate information.

It was another year where COVID-19 dominated our channels, but there was plenty of other content you enjoyed.

1. Website: COVID-19 Information webpages

• COVID-19 vaccination clinics were our most popular COVID-19 page! You wanted to know where and when to get vaccinated.
• Visitor guidelines were important to you – they were some of our most popular social media posts and one of the most visited webpages.
• And you were looking for rapid tests! Our Point of Care Tests (POCT) page quickly became a favourite. You can find a list of Horizon locations and hours of operation, here.
• While the information changed and was updated consistently, you can always find the most up-to-date guidelines on our website!

2. Topic: Vaccines and vaccination clinics

• Vaccination clinic content was top of mind for you this year! Not only was it our most popular webpage, there were videos, blogs, and social posts you loved.

3. Horizon Story: Stepping Forward

• You loved reading about the health care experiences of people in your community and one patient experience with a new innovative knee replacement surgery was your favourite.

4. Video: Horizon surgeon leads new neurosurgery technique to improve outcomes for patients with brain tumours

• Horizon’s Dr. Dhany Charest, Chief of Neurosurgery at Horizon’s The Moncton Hospital, took us inside the operation room. It’s not every day you get a chance to see a surgery being performed and you loved learning about this new neurosurgical procedure.

5. Website and social media: Nurse recruitment

• In the fall, we launched a Canadian-wide nurse recruitment campaign to encourage nurses and internationally educated nurses to consider working in New Brunswick.
• You had a chance to meet some of Horizon’s newest graduate nurses, on our website and social channels.
• The campaign is still in market inspiring nurses in search of real connection with the community, a change in scenery, an adventure, and a new place to call home to consider New Brunswick. Check it out here.

6. Blog: New Career, New Work-Life Balance in New Brunswick

• You wanted to know more about recruitment at Horizon and why learn more about people like Dr. Marissa Attis and Dr. Rohail Kumar, who moved to New Brunswick to open a practice.

7. Video: Hip Replacement Surgery – What you need to know before, during and after

• Patients and their family members learned what to expect while you are in hospital, and how to care for yourself after surgery so that you can have the best recovery possible.
• And good news, we have a video for knee replacement surgery, too!

8. Video: Tips to stay safe during an NB winter

• New Brunswick winters are no joke and you found tips to stay safe during winter in our video with Dr. Serge Melanson. Winter is here again, so why not revisit this video.

9. Social media: Construction at Horizon’s Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital

• There are many exciting and big changes coming to Horizon facilities, including a large expansion in Fredericton. You got to see a look from above at the progress being made.

10. Horizon Star issue: March 2020

• The Horizon Star celebrates the incredible work being done by our staff, both professionally and personally. This issue resonated with staff and was the most read!
• The cover story featured a group of Internationally Educated Nurses who made their way to New Brunswick and Horizon.
