Marilyn is a St. Francis Xavier University alumna and was pleased to return to Miramichi upon graduation in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She was drawn to the nursing profession because of its caring nature and has enjoyed the human connection aspect of her work throughout her life-long health care career.

Initially, Marilyn worked in the Miramichi Hospital (now the Miramichi Regional Hospital) as a registered nurse on the Obstetrical unit and gradually moved to the community working for a number of years in Public Health, then transitioned to the New Brunswick Extra-Mural Program when it was first established in Blackville as a satellite office of Miramichi. She was soon promoted to the position of Director of Extra-Mural Program and Primary Care for the area. In 2005, Marilyn became the Vice President of Professional Services which included all community programs as well as Diagnostics, and Therapeutics at Horizon’s Miramichi Regional Hospital and was part of Horizon’s inception, becoming the Executive Director for the Miramichi Area in 2008.

As Executive Director, Marilyn works with numerous teams on quality improvement initiatives that are having a positive, tangible impact on patient services. She has been Horizon’s Regional lead for both the Women and Children Health’s Network as well as the Ambulatory Care Network since their inception in 2010.

An avid outdoor enthusiast and wildlife lover, Marilyn shows her hometown pride by encouraging new health care professionals to enjoy Miramichi’s vibrant community and everything else it has to offer. In addition, she is a strong advocate against discrimination of all people and activist against animal abuse.

Marilyn says she receives great joy and gratitude in her role stemming from the dedication and commitment of the people she works with and credits them for her continued passion for health care.
