Dr. John Dornan President and CEO Dr. Dornan has practiced medicine in New Brunswick since 1987 and has served in multiple leadership and educational activities since. A lifelong learner and educator, Dr. Dornan has taught students from the start of medical school to the completion of residencies in Internal Medicine and Family Medicine. He played a principal role in the establishment of Dalhousie University’s first New Brunswick based satellite Royal College residency. As someone who loves to travel around our beautiful province, he held patient clinics at Horizon’s The Moncton Hospital, Charlotte County Hospital, Upper River Valley Hospital, Sussex Health Centre and at Vitalité Health Network’s Tracadie-Sheila Hospital. Dr. Dornan has been a welcome speaker at educational activities throughout Atlantic Canada, and at national meetings, including the NB Heart Centre Cardiovascular Symposium. An avid runner, Dr. Dornan completed the London UK marathon just before the COVID-19 pandemic emerged. He was awarded the inaugural John Dornan Leadership Award in Emergency Medicine. As Regional Chief of Horizon’s medical staff, Dr. Dornan has also been a front-line practitioner with a clear appreciation of the critical role and teamwork provided by nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists and the whole health care team. Prior to his regional role, he held the position of local chief of staff and medical director in Upper River Valley area. He holds Royal College fellowships in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology, as well as a master’s in business administration from the University of New Brunswick. Dr. Dornan and his wife Gail have worked in Horizon for in excess of three decades each, in multiple facilities. They are dedicated and enthusiastic New Brunswickers!
